Area 51 History
Some background notes and a selection of old publicity pics and flyers, charting the progress of AREA 51...
In 1999, after 7 years running their own theatre group, the infamous Kiss My Axe, and working in a variety of other productions and even circuses, Matt Page, Richard Moore and Tim Franklin – egged on by their girlfriends (now wives) - decided to take what they had learned and start a production company of their own; and so AREA 51 was born.

A cartoonist, sculptor and pyrotechnician respectively, their idea was to launch a company like no other; incorporating their wide knowledge of performance and prop makingt to form he basis of an entertainment agency specialising in completely new ideas – and also recruiting and training their own team of specialised production and entertainment staff.

Years of experience within the fields of both corporate and club entertainment had shown there was a definite gap in the market for fresh ideas and, in particular, multi-tasking skilled performers. Our crew has grown steadily over the years, as we’ve met and recruited those with a similar passion to perform.

By keeping the majority of event staff and performers in-house (save for some specialised artists) we also gained an unprecedented amount of control over goings on, enabling us to get the most out of our talented team every time. This has gained us a reputation for hard work and value for money.

We’ve outgrown our premises 4 times over the last decade, and now inhabit a 10 thousand square foot combined office and workshop in the countryside right in the heart of the UK. Our workshops have developed into one of the most advanced, cutting edge design studios in the country, making use of the very latest SFX techniques.

Our low boredom threshold and urge to create has seen us accumulate the largest selection of in-house walkabout characters on Earth; literally hundreds upon hundreds, with new ideas and designs constantly in production.

The very first Area 51 promotional video, from way back in 2000. A real blast from the past...
